From London to Moscow, over the past few weeks Thorn has attended several lighting fairs and innovative customer events with a special emphasis on the eControl initiative, which makes it easier for you to understand, specify, install and maintain good quality, energy efficient lighting. Along with Thorn's easy to follow 15 ways to save energy, eControl has been bought to life and delivered to hundreds of customers across Europe and beyond.

Tempo di Luce, Limatola Castle, Italy,
30 October 2012

In conjunction with combined sponsors, Hess and Aubrilam, Thorn hosted a unique Time of Light live customer event at the historic Limatola Castle, near Benevento in Italy. Around 120 architects and other customers attended, mainly from the Campania region but extending as far afield as France.

Eladia Pulido, Thorn Global Sales and Marketing Director, kicked off the evening with a presentation on Thorn's commitment to "Lighting People". This was followed by several presentations, including one from George Hess, who talked about the Hess brand, one from guest architect Alessandro Grassia, and another from lighting designer, Giordana Arcesilai, who described projects she had completed with Thorn's products, including the Contrast floodlight.

After the presentations, Andrea Benussi of Thorn's technical team led guests outside to watch a light show. The ancient castle and its magnificent surroundings were used as a live showroom for Thorn and Hess products, demonstrating how light can change reality. Stefano De Leo, Commercial Director Italy, said: "The Tempo di Luce event was extremely well received by guests with many commenting on how much they had learned."

LuxLive 2012, London, UK
6-7 November 2012

LuxLive is known as the UK's most comprehensive and exciting lighting exhibition. This year Thorn took the opportunity to show the latest LED products in the eControl framework, using the same concept that proved successful at Light+Building in April. An unprecedented number of visitors took a journey through an outdoor space, dominated by the 15 ways to save energy wall, to an indoor space showing the latest products and control systems. Touch screen information points displayed detailed product and energy saving information, as well as case studies.

The launch of the new Smart Building Experience proved to be a big hit with customers at LuxLive as they discovered how to light multiple applications effectively and still save energy. Thorn's focus on the specific needs of an application and demonstration of how eControl makes energy efficiency easy proved a fresh approach welcomed by many visitors. Comments included: "The Smart Buildings Experience is a great tool, so easy to use and logical – much easier than sifting through a catalogue."

As part of the LuxLive 2012 programme, Kevin Stubbs, Thorn UK Technical Manager, gave a talk about "Taking control of energy" to over 70 attendees, discussing in detail the fundamentals for lighting and energy.

Thorn also sponsored the Client of the Year category at the Lux Awards 2012, the winner of which was revealed in a glittering ceremony at the Natural History Museum on Tuesday 6 November. Nominated by Synergy, Waitrose took home the beautiful 'L' shaped trophy, made from recycled lamp glass. Waitrose's recently opened Stratford store in east London is the world's first BREEAM 'Outstanding' retail project.

Interlight Moscow, Russia
6-9 November 2012

Interlight Moscow powered by Light+Building has gained the reputation as the №1 trade fair in the lighting technology industry in Russia and CIS. Once again, Thorn took the opportunity to demonstrate eControl and the 15 ways to save energy.

The Thorn Russia team was kept busy with a constant stream of customers on the stand, which concentrated on road and amenity lighting products. On the third day, the Russian Lighting Trade Association organised a round table discussion on the subject "New Tools – New Rules – The commercial policy of world and domestic manufacturers". Paul Stranks, Thorn Global Marketing Director shared the discussion with Juergen Sturm (General Secretary of the Global Lighting Association) and other leading suppliers.

The main subject was the impact of LED technology and the energy saving demands of a fast changing world. Paul Stranks presented Thorn's eControl concept and an overview of the Thorn Energy Partnership activities.

City of Light, Landskrona Theatre, Sweden
6-8 November 2012

Thorn Nordic invited customers to Landskrona Theatre to present its new showroom for outdoor lighting and the City of Light project, which launched in March 2012 following a unique partnership between Landskrona City, The School of Technical Engineering, Jönköping University and Thorn. The new showroom consists of live installation sites throughout the city controlled with the Telea system.

The City of Light gives five students studying lighting design at the School of Technical Engineering the opportunity to carry out a real-life lighting design project. The programme is based is on four main principles: functionality, safety, security and energy efficiency, and covers four areas across Landskrona city.

More than 300 attendees from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland were given the opportunity to explore outdoor or indoor lighting. Those who chose outdoor lighting received a tour of the new outdoor showroom in Landskrona city, where they could experience light in a natural urban and park environment as well as a tour of projects that have already been realised through the City of Light. Those who chose indoor lighting visited Emilia School, Sweden's most energy efficient school, where they were introduced to the low energy Passive House building. The evening culminated with everyone joining together for a buffet dinner.

Since the City of Light event, a new project has begun which is also in partnership with Landskrona City and The School of Technical Engineering, Jönköping University. This time, eight new students are focusing on indoor lighting with the live examples being a High School where they will create 3 different ways of lighting reference classrooms and a Retirement home. Focussing on LED where it makes sense. You can find out more about the City of Light project by viewing this video.
